Road Trip Fitness

I can’t believe we are already halfway through July…where has summer gone?!?  If you’ve been following me on social media than you know I’ve been traveling for a couple of weeks now and one of the things that can be really difficult about traveling is keeping up your fitness routines.  So I thought I would share a few ideas for staying active when you are traveling!

Guest Passes – Before you  head out on your trip, do a little research and see if their are local gyms near where you are staying…and then contact them and ask about guest passes.  They don’t always say yes, but it’s worth asking!

November Project – Located in 17 different cities around the country the November Project gives you the chance to get active with locals.  Before you head out on a trip check to see if there is a chapter where you’re going and find out when they workout.

Rest Area Fitness – If you’re going to be sitting in a car for long hours on a road trip I would suggest breaking up the trip with a couple of rest area stops to get your blood pumping!  On my latest drive through Utah my amazing sister offered to be my fitness model so I could share these exercises with you…and let’s be honest, it’s a whole lot easier to do lunges when this is your view!

When you take a road trip it is easy to throw a small set of weights and a jump rope in the car so you do a few quick exercises when you stop.  Beyond lunges and bicep curls, you can do squats, overhead tricep extensions, lateral raises, tricep dips and any other creative exercises!

Walking Tours – You can’t do this everywhere you go but if you’re able I would encourage you to take a walking tour in whatever city you’re visiting.  It allows you to be active and see so many details of a destination’s culture.  You’ll definitely see a lot more taking a walk tour of a city than you would driving around.

What do you do to stay active when you’re traveling ?

  1. I’ve never heard of this November Project – but the concept is awesome! I’m terrible at working out on the road! I always pack all my gear and then… just lounge!

  2. Oooh! I love these ideas. I’m going to have to plan some “rest stop fitness” for the big move! Thanks for sharing these awesome tips!

  3. We went on a road trip over the summer….drove 19 hours to Florida with three kids (10-16) and at every rest stop the kids would get out and do lunges, stretch and touch their toes. It was great. I even have a photo of the girls doing that in McDonalds early one morning! 🙂 I never thought of checking into guest passes. It’s a great idea! Thanks for sharing this info! 🙂
