If you’ve spent any amount of time here on the blog or on my social media then you know I love cupcakes!  Like they’re my favorite y’all!  A world with cupcakes is just a better world.  But I have discovered a way to make them even better…use Girl Scout cookies to make them!  So I figured it would be the kind thing to do to gather up all of the best recipes for Girl Scout cupcakes and share them with you.  This way you can take your cupcakes to the next level.

The great news is, if it’s not cookie season you can order them from Amazon (each type of cookie has a link where you can get them on Amazon).  Which means you can make these cupcakes in the middle of summer.  Even if you’ve already eaten the last box of Thin Mints you stashed away in February!

Healthy, Active Living with prAna style

Here at Girl on the Move I’m all about adventure…going new places and trying new things.  Specifically, I love going on healthy, active adventures.  So when prAna contacted me about collaborating on their product line and I discovered that their mission is to, “Inspire healthy, active, and free-spirited living,” I was in!  Healthy, active living is my kind of living.  Turns out I’m hooked on prAna style and can’t wait to add more pieces to my closet!

I decided to test out my Mariette Dress and Devan Henley during a girls weekend with my sister (who is also my AMAZING photographer!)  We balanced our weekend with some Netflix binging and time at the beach…the perfect sister weekend!

There were a couple of things I loved about my prAna style…

*Comfort!  When I’m out and about on an adventure I want to look cute…and still comfortable.  And prAna gets the job done well!

*Transitions well.  I love finding clothes I can wear while running errands, at home, and out exploring and these clothes transitioned well from one activity to the next.

Here’s the great news for y’all… I get to share a 15% off any order code with all of you!  Head over to prAna and use code…  BLOGF16JDO

And then plan a beach adventure…or a weekend getaway…or a girls night out!

You'll love your weekend adventures with prAna style. Pack your dresses, shirts, and sweaters and you're all set for any activities you have planned!

San Diego Urban Adventure Quest

One of my favorite ways to explore a city is on foot…whether it’s walking or running…there’s just something about seeing things up close when you’re on foot!  So when I connected with Urban Adventure Quest to try a complimentary quest I couldn’t wait to explore San Diego!

As with most of my posts, some links may be affiliate links. This means at no additional cost to you, I may make a small commission on anything you buy through the link. You don’t pay anything extra, but you help support your favorite blog with something you would have bought anyways.

Before beginning your quest you’ll receive information on where you need to go to get to the starting point of your quest.  Once there you will get your first clue on your phone and the hunt begins!  At each location you’ll need to answer a question (correctly!) to receive the next clue.  Hints are available but using hints will lower your overall score.  So, if you’re playing to win…skip the hints!

If you're looking for things to do in San Diego, California on your next vacation, you'll want to check out this Urban Adventure Quest to explore the area!

On our hunt we explored Old Town, Little Italy, the harbor area and fun little attractions in between.  One of the things I loved the most about this hunt was that I saw parts of the city I would not have found on any lists of top tourist attractions in San Diego.  But they were AMAZING!

A couple of tips for when you go on your own Urban Adventure Quest (which I’d highly recommend!!!)…

*Grab an external battery charger for your phone…you will spend several hours on your phone the entire time which can drain your battery.  And you don’t want to lose the race because your phone died!

*Limit your team size…the Urban Adventure Quest wouldn’t be nearly as fun if you had 15 people on your team.  So keep your team relatively small.  And if you have lots of friends and family that want to participate, you can divide into smaller teams and race!

*Don’t start your race too late in the day because then you risk having attractions be closed and you’ll miss out on some of the experience

*Have fun!  The Urban Adventure Quest is a great way to explore a new city, so have fun while you’re exploring!

What city would you want to explore with a scavenger hunt?

Cupcake Adventures – Sift Dessert Bar

Let the Cupcake Adventures continue with a stop at Sift Dessert Bar in Petaluma, CA!  When I travel I’m always on the lookout for a fun, new cupcake shop to try.  Reader recommendations, Google searches, Yelp reviews and Instagram searches all help me discover new cupcake shops.  And my trip to Sift Dessert Bar to try was not a disappoint!

Not only do they have a delicious variety of cupcake flavors, they have frosting shots.  Frosting shots y’all!!  I don’t know what it is about frosting shots but anytime I see a cupcake shop selling them, my heart just gets excited!  Frosting is a big part of how I form my opinion of a cupcake shop so I think the frosting shots are a great way of sampling a variety of frosting flavors.

So the big question is…how does Sift Dessert Bar measure up to my cupcake trifecta?

Moist cake?  Check!  Fortunately I visited Sift Dessert Bar with my family so it was much easier to sample a variety of flavors (when I visit places on my own I just look glutenous!) and there were no dry flavors!

Frosting too sweet? The frosting was excellent…especially the lemon frosting!  And in case you were wondering…lemon is my default favorite cupcake!

Cake to frosting ratio? A really outstanding ratio!  I rarely, if ever, see cupcakes with too little frosting.  But I often see cupcakes with too much frosting…but that wasn’t the case here at Sift Dessert Bar.

Bottom line…if you’re in the greater San Francisco area, be sure to look up the Sift Dessert Bar locations and stop by to try one of their delicious cupcakes!

Kickball World Record Adventures

I recently came across an article in my Facebook news feed about Atlanta Hawks guard Kyle Korver.  In the article, Korver shares his approach to fundraising for his foundation and that, “While he does like traditional means of fundraising, he likes to mix it up and keep it interesting, fun and achievable.”

As with most of my posts, some links may be affiliate links. This means at no additional cost to you, I may make a small commission on anything you buy through the link. You don’t pay anything extra, but you help support your favorite blog with something you would have bought anyways.

He refers to one crazy fundraising idea to set a kickball world record that, “In retrospect, it was the worst idea ever, but for a really great cause!”  As someone who participated in that game, I have to agree…it was not a great idea lol!  Setting the kickball world record was definitely one of the longest 24-hour periods in my life.  On my way home from the game I literally had to use two feet to drive because I couldn’t lift my foot off the gas pedal to move it to the brake pedal!  The next morning, it was excruciatingly painful to get out of bed.  But I’m all about living a life of adventure so…no regrets!

Here at Girl on the Move I’m all about inspiring people to step out of their comfort zone to new adventures and places.  So if you decide to step out of your comfort zone and set a Guinness World Record of your own, here are a few tips…

  1. Set a record in something you’re good at…or at least passionate about…because otherwise you’ll resent the process.
  2. Find a cheering squad.  It can be tiring to set a record (we played kickball for over 24 hours!) so find a few fans to cheer you along!
  3. Follow all of the rules.  The only way to legitimately set a record is to use the official Guinness process.  So make sure you do your research before you begin to attempt to set a new record.
  4. Think obscurely.  Think outside of the box.  Don’t just try to do something bigger or better than someone else has already done.  Brainstorm completely new and unique record categories.
  5. Don’t try to set a kickball world record…we already have that one in the books…literally!

GISHWHES Scavenger Hunt 2016 Recap

I’m not sure it’s possible to recap the GISHWHES Scavenger Hunt 2016 in a blog post…but I’m sure going to try!  If you’re reading this and wondering, “What in the world is the GISHWHES Scavenger Hunt?!?” the short answer is…the Greatest Internet Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen.  The longer answer is, “It’s a massive scavenger Hunt that takes place the first week of August. Players compete from anywhere in the world, including their own home, creating weird and beautiful “art” online and in the world, doing crazy fun activities, and committing heartwarming acts of kindness.”

As with most of my posts, some links may be affiliate links. This means at no additional cost to you, I may make a small commission on anything you buy through the link. You don’t pay anything extra, but you help support your favorite blog with something you would have bought anyways.

This was my first year participating and wow!  I love this quote from John Holmes, “There is no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up.” And that’s what GISHWHES is all about!  When you spend a week focusing on acts of kindness for others and working together with your team towards a common goal, it is nearly impossible to focus on the things, “Going wrong,” in your own life.

A look at the 2016 GISHWHES scavenger hunt. Tips to help you complete the list of items in the week-long scavenger hunt from Misha Collins.
I would highly recommend participating in future GISHWHES scavenger hunts.  Here are a few tips to help you out when you participate…

  1. You can recruit a few friends to join you, but I would encourage to have most of your team randomly assigned to you.  This hunt requires all kinds of craziness and it helps if the people on your team are all accessing different resources and connections.  Random assignments will also help your ability to complete time and location specific items.  If you all live in the same city, you’re limited.  But if you live around the world, being in different timezones can definitely work to your advantage.
  2. Be willing to step out of your comfort zone!  This is the biggest reason I signed up for the GISHWHES scavenger hunt.  Stepping out of your comfort zone, and inspiring others to do the same, is at the heart of my blog, so it only makes sense to join this hunt.  There’s a chance you’ll need to dress up in a tutu (I would suggest stocking up now!), complete random acts of kindness for strangers, create a LinkedIn profile for a dog, or other silly items.  So be ready to not just step out of your comfort zone, but leap!
  3. Prepare yourself for the crazy!  You might be asked to track down an astronaut, create costumes out of food, break world records, and any other number of crazy items.  You won’t know what’s on the list until the hunt begins and then it’s go time!  So be ready for a week of crazy fun during which you will need to ask your friends and family for help!  Here’s a peek at all of the items for 2016.
