November Scopers Challenge

It’s official.  I’m obsessed with Periscope! This summer I knew Periscope was something I should get on board with but I was sooo scared!  So Lauren, from Working Mom Magic, and I started September Scopers, and then continued the challenge with October Scopers and now it’s time for November Scopers…because we just can’t get enough Periscope!  And this month, we’re sharing our Worst Date Ever stories…so it’s pretty much going to be an epic month!!!

Periscope is a great way to connect with others on a deeper level then any other social media platform.  I’ve also learned some fabulous cooking tips, DIY projects, fitness tips, and so much more!  I’m working on a post on ways you can use Periscope for your brand/blog/business/self…so stay tuned for those tips coming soon!

October Scopers Challenge

Confession time…I am officially obsessed with Periscope!  Remember a month ago when I was so scared to try broadcasting live that I decided to do a month-long challenge to make myself get over the fear?  Well now I’m over my fear…and I’m obsessed with scoping!  The opportunity to connect with so many fabulous #SeptemberScopers has been amazing and it’s in a way you just can’t do via written word.  There is something about being able to engage in real time that makes the connections seem deeper and more genuine.  During the last month I have learned a LOT about scoping so I wanted to share a few of the tips I’ve learned…

Periscope tips for brands, blogs, businesses and anyone else who wants to try out Periscope

-Have a purpose for your scope…even if the purpose is just to tell a funny story, have a reason for hitting the “Start Broadcast” button

-Engage, engage, engage…I think if you’re going to use social media then you need to be social and Periscope is no exception!  Comment, give hearts, connect off Periscope, just engage with each other!

-Introduce yourself in the beginning and at the end in case viewers missed your introduction

-Ask for what you want during your broadcast…it’s okay to ask people to comment about particular topics, or give hearts if they like your tips or share with their followers…if someone is new they might not know what to do, so it’s okay to ask!

-Have fun…the more enjoying doing the broadcasts, the more others will enjoy watching them!

Since Lauren, of Working Mom Magic, and I had so much fun doing SeptemberScopers we are doing #OctoberScopers next…yay!!!

Blog Staycation: It’s a Wrap!

I don’t think I’ve ever met a blogger who didn’t have a to do list a mile long.  There are posts to write, brands to contact, pitches to put together, social media updates, and the list goes on and on…so what’s a blogger to do?!?  I was in that exact position a year ago so I teamed up with a couple of other bloggers and we created the Blog Staycation.  The purpose is to create a dedicated amount of time for bloggers to work on simple updates, connect with other bloggers, share blogging resources, learn from other bloggers and tackle their blogging to do lists…all from the comfort of their own home…or their local coffee shop!  We’ve grown since our first Staycation a year ago and now bloggers from around the world take part and we officially host three Staycations a year (January, late spring, and September)

This past weekend was our third round of the Blog Staycation and as we wrap up this one, we already looking ahead to round 4.  So, mark your calendars for our next Blog Staycation…January 14-17, 2016…that’s right, it’s time to start making plans for 2016!!!  If you’re interested in joining us, take a quick minute to fill out this form so we can keep you updated as we get closer!

Blog Staycation

Now on to what I was able to accomplish during the Blog Staycation…

Most of what I did is not visible here on the blog, (I updated some tags and categories but you’d probably need to be a super sleuth to find them!) but is pretty awesome none the less!

  • One of my blogging dreams is to host blogging retreats…ideally a series of retreats around the country…but I’ll start with one!  So I used this weekend to put together a tentative plan to make this dream a reality
  • I did some behind the scenes work on my new travel link up…Be Inspired: Travel Tales…and if you have any travel related posts on your blog or you just need to take a virtual vacation, this is the link up for you!
  • Worked on my plan for using Periscope the next few months…if you want to see how this turns out be sure to follow me on Periscope…@jmdenouden
  • Wrote several blog posts

I’d love to hear from you…What are your thoughts on a blogging retreat?  What is something on your blogging to do list? Have you been using Periscope…if you have, let’s connect!

Now here’s a look at what other bloggers did during the Blog Staycation…

#SeptemberScopers Challenge

Earlier this week a friend of mine wrote about Periscope on her blog and while I loved her post, it made me so nervous because as much as I’ve wanted to jump on the Periscope bandwagon, I am ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIED!  What if nobody watches my scopes?  What if three people watch and they all think I’m ridiculous?  What if I look like a complete and utter fool?  And so I did what I often do when I need to work on something…I jump in like 150%!  I thought, “What if I would commit to scoping every day in September to make myself get over the fear?”  Lauren and I got to talking…

…And #SeptemberScopers was born!

In a nutshell….we’re going to scope every day in September and we want you to join us!  To make things easy for you, we even came up with suggested topics for every day of the month…although you can feel free to use your own!
