Lessons from a RunStreak & Chris D’Elia
This past weekend my running streak hit 100 days! When I first started the running streak back in March I had no idea how long I would last and in the interest of full disclosure, I struggled to run a full mile without stopping. I could run a few miles with run/walk intervals, but not a whole mile straight.
100 days later my easy days are 2-3 miles, my longer runs are 6-8 miles, I have taken almost ten minutes off my 5k time, and I’ve run in seven different states.
And I’ve learned some valuable lessons along the way.
I rarely listen to music when I run but instead use the time to think and process through life. So over the last 100 days I’ve thought a lot about what I was learning from this running streak, but it wasn’t until I listened to an interview with Chris D’elia (one of my favorite comedians) that I realized one of the lessons I’ve learned.
In his interview (I believe it was a Fighter and the Kid podcast) Chris talked about his success with stand up comedy and one thing in particular really stood out to me…Chris talked about working on his material by sometimes doing 3 sets a night, six-seven nights a week. Y’all, that‘s dedication to being successful!
And that’s when I realized…
Small choices made every day consistently, build good habits that lead you down the road to success.
For Chris that meant performing night after night even when it would have been easier to take a night off.
For my running streak that meant making the choice to run every single day whether I wanted to or not.

- Select something you can do every day for 25 days that will help you reach your goals and be successful in business, health, life, family, etc…mine was running (at least) a mile.
- Once you complete the task each day write in the date and then repeat for 25 days…I’m now past day 100 and on my fifth tracker!
I’d love to hear in the comments below, what new habit are you going to create this summer that will help you be successful in business, health, life, family, etc?
p.s. the running streak is still going strong and at this point, I’m not sure how to end it!
And also, even though he’s known for being funny, I think that Chris’ success is inspiring and I’ve added him to my wish list of people to interview for the Be Inspired series…maybe I’ll get lucky and he’ll read this and get in touch so I can interview him!

congrats on your 100 day streak! i am about to turn 30 and am thinking about trying to do something like this to give myself space to process as i enter this new decade.

I think that’s a great idea! Turning 30 was very reflective for me so having something in place to help me process would have been wonderful

First, I have to say, you are truly inspiring. I could only wish I could run 100 days straight…or any type of exercise for that matter! My goal for the summer is to get exercise in at least 5 days a week. I truly need to work on making this a priority for me! Summer doesn’t last long here, so I want to soak up as much sun as possible.

You definitely need to soak up the sun since you don’t get it all year round! And I think making a habit of any type of exercise is a great thing

After seeing your inspiring 100 days picture on Facebook, I’m going to start a streak of my own! I think I’m going to aim for 30 minutes of physical activity everyday. I’ll definitely be tracking it as I go! 🙂

This is super inspiring! I’m trying to power walk every day right now (I’ve got a knee issue that stops me from running) and you’re so right, it’s all about making it a habit! 🙂
