For me this year has been about stepping outside of my comfort zone, trying new things, and living life in an intentional way. I have to be really honest with you, it hasn’t been easy. I have pursued things that have flat-out been unsuccessful. I have hit some road blocks and it’s not always easy to keep trying. But I have to admit that my faith has grown in the process and I’m slowly, very slowly, beginning to realize that maybe this year is not about the results, but about what I am learning along the way.
Over the last several months I have read several books that have been incredibly instrumental in this learning process and so when the opportunity came up to read The Extravagant Fool, by Kevin Adams, author of the blog Wake Up My Faith, I jumped at the chance. What I heard about the book seemed like it was going to be a great fit for the lessons I’ve been learning this year, and I was not disappointed!
Kevin Adams shares his story of going from having an income most people only dream about and a highly successful business, to a financial free-fall that left him facing the reality that his family was buried in debt and facing homelessness. And he shares how during that time he learned the, “Difference between Christ-centered and Christian-centered.”
Adams shares how he discovered what it means to be surrendered to Christ, instead of simply living a life that is committed to Christ, and he encourages his readers to do the same. And as he shared there were countless times where I found myself furiously scribbling nuggets of wisdom into my journal so that I can be reminded regularly of the fact that God wants us to trust Him, and Him alone.
If you are looking for five easy steps to being a great Christian, then this book is not for you! But if you are looking to discover what it means to truly trust God, I would highly recommend that you check out The Extravagant Fool. And here’s the great part, I have an extra copy of The Extravagant Fool to giveaway to one of my readers!
