Love Does
At the beginning of 2014 I took on the Empty Shelf challenge to keep track of the books I read this year, and since my theme this year is to be intentional, I’ve been very intentional about the books I have chosen. Instead of what I call “summer beach reads” (light and easy fiction books) I’ve been reading books that make me think, challenge me, and inspire me to take action.
My latest read is Love Does by Bob Goff and while I will try to articulate how the book inspired me, I don’t think I will be able to do the book justice! The bottom line is that I think you should read the book yourself!
Page after page challenged me to look out how I am choosing to live my life and think about whether I am fully engaging in life or simply letting life happen around me. As Bob shared story after story about how he lives out the idea that love is not just a feeling, but an action, I reflected on what that looks like in my own life.
Throughout the book Bob challenges readers to, “Leak Jesus,” in every area of their lives, even when it’s difficult. Even when it requires sacrifice. Even when things don’t work out right away. We are called to love like Jesus. And that doesn’t just mean loving people with our words, but also, and more importantly, loving them with our actions.
And in case Bob Goff ever reads this…I used the word that five times in this blog post…and it pained me every. single. time.
*Update – Here’s what Bob Goff had to say about the use of that…
