Creating a Social Media Plan {day fourteen}
Welcome to Day Fourteen of the Write 31 challenge! If this is your first time stopping by, head over to Day One to get started from the beginning, and now on to Day Fourteen…
Yesterday we talked about the pros and cons of Pinterest and using group boards and secret boards. Today I’m going to share tips on how to grow your Pinterest following and use Pinterest to drive traffic to your blog. Tomorrow we’ll put together a Pinterest plan.
Pinterest Tips
-Pinterest can be a great source of traffic for your blog but to make that happen, you need to make sure your content is on Pinterest. The best way to make that happen is to include at least one pinnable image (high quality and inviting) in every post.
-Embed your Pinterest boards in blog posts where applicable so people who are reading your blog head over to Pinterest to follow you and will see your content there in the future. You can use THIS widget builder to do this in your own blog posts.
-Limit the number of hashtags you use on your pins because on Pinterest hashtags drive people away from your content.

-Make sure you have some type of Pin It plugin installed on your blog so people can easily pin your content
-Take time to pin from your old blogs posts
-Remember that Pinterest likes tall and skinny pics so try to include at least one of those images in your post.
-It’s okay to ask people to pin your content…in fact, I’d love to have you pin an image from this post so other people can learn more about Pinterest!
Tomorrow we’ll begin putting together a Pinterest plan!
If you have any questions about this, please feel free to leave them in the comments below or email me at girlonthemoveblog01 {at} gmail {dot} com

More great tips, thanks! I didn’t know there was an advantage to pinning from the source rather than repinning…although I’ve done that at times. I like to check the actual source to make sure the content is pin-worthy, but then I just re-pin. I’ll start pinning from the source!
And thanks for the widget for embedding Pinterest boards within one’s blog…

Happy to share that widget! One of the great advantages of pinning from the source is that then your name is on the pin! So when people repin it they see your name…you don’t want to keep spreading someone else’s name if you can be spreading your own 🙂

This is definitely a weak area for me…How can I install a plug in on my blog so people can pin my blog pics?
jmdenouden@gmail.com
It depends on what platform you use to blog? I use WordPress and installed a plugin called, “Pinterest Pin It Button For Images”…if you’re on a different platform you can google plugins for pinterst buttons.

Great suggestions. I always forget that Pinterest is social and I’m generally NOT. At all.

It is super easy for forget to be social on Pinterst…but it can lead to great results!

I love Pinterest. Not so sure how I feel about the new feed though. Hoping you touch on it! http://www.ahalogy.com/blog/a-whole-new-ball-game/

I’m not going to touch on it during the Pinterest days because the’ve already been written but I’m going to touch on it during the Q&A day towards the end 🙂

Great tips! Thank you!
My biggest deterent to pinning is editing the photos to a specific size or with added text. Do you think it’s enough to simply have a photo and pin it to your board?

I think having a photo (even if it’s not the perfect size) is better than no photo
