Creating a Social Media Plan {day one}
Welcome to 31 Days! If this is your first time here on Girl on the Move you can find out more about me (and my love of fitness, travel, and cupcakes) here and be sure to check out the popular posts on the right-hand side!
31 Days is an online writing challenge started by The Nester where bloggers select one topic and then write a post on that topic every day in October.
After a lot of brainstorming, list-making, and reflection I finally settled on a topic…

But then this January I decided to give my blog some more attention and see if I could actually monetize my blog…even if it was only enough money to pay for my slight obsession with cupcakes!
My most recent order of business was to create a social media plan. So I did what I always do when I need blogging help…I asked my blogging friends if anyone had a sample social media plan they could share with me! And I got one of two things…
…crickets…I’m going to assume that their lack of response meant they didn’t have a sample to share!
…lots and lots of tips on how to schedule my social media posts…HootSuite, CoSchedule, Buffer, and the list goes on
But having tools to schedule my social media posts doesn’t really help me with why I should be scheduling, what I should be scheduling, and when I should be scheduling them.
So I sat down to work on creating a social media plan and realized I wanted to share the process with y’all!
I went back and forth on the idea of spending a whole month posting about social media since not all of my wonderful readers (i.e. YOU) are bloggers, but then I realized social media doesn’t just apply to bloggers, but also to brick-and-mortar business owners, direct sales consultants, public figures, Etsy shop owners, and anyone with a Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram account. So I hope that you are able to learn something new or try something new through this series on social media.
And don’t worry, if you have no interest in social media I’ll still be publishing some of the regular stuff here on the blog…Training Thursdays, Be Inspired posts, a few Links I’m Loving and more!
I’d love to have you stick around for the next 31 days as we talk about…
-Why you should have a social media plan
-Pros and cons of various social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and more
-General social media tips
-Creating a brand on social media
-Printables for creating the actual plan
-And more!
And just to make sure you don’t miss a single post, submit your email address below to receive an email every day in October with the post of the day related to Creating a Social Media Plan!
You’ll also want to bookmark this page because this is where I’ll keep a running list of all of the posts throughout the month!

I’ll be here to check out your posts. I purposely scheduled posts for the whole October and November (yes, I am crazy, I know) so that I can devote more time to growing my following on social media networks. Plus, you’re offering printables; who can resist that?
jmdenouden@gmail.com
I know I can’t resist printables, and I hope they’re helpful!

This sounds like a GENIUS idea! I’ll be tuning in every few days to catch up but I can’t wait to read about all of your tips! I DEFINITELY need a plan and you probably got crickets from me. Actually I feel like I answered that question with “I just wing it!”

Hi, looking forward to learning more. I just bought my own domain at GoDaddy and will be transferring off blogger to it. It is a big undertaking so I am taking it slow. Do you have any articles for making the transfer smoother? O
jmdenouden@gmail.com
Are you transferring from Blogger to WordPress or only moving domains?

Do you realize you are taking a mess – the average bloggers social media strategy – and organizing it. Then teaching others how to create their own. Talk about using your strengths! Do you know what your Myers-Briggs profile is? Just curious I’ve been spending time studying mine and a few of my co-workers. I think you could build a business helping people organize not only the homes and work areas, but their lives.
Back to your plan… I set blogging goals at the beginning of the year – have x followers by the end of the year etc., but I didn’t actually have a plan. I’m starting to create one for next year though. I’ve even set up a calendar with post ideas for various days.
The same thing could be said for the blogger who can’t find her tribe. What is her plan. You can’t just show up and say be my tribe. Just like I can’t have x followers by year-end if I have no idea what I want to blog about.
Great series Julie can’t wait to read more.
