Summer Reading List 2014

If you saw my Summer Bucket List last week, then you know that my goal this summer is to read at least five books.  One of my favorite things to do during the summer is sit outside by the pool with a good book, so I’m sure I’ll be able to check this off the bucket list!  Here are a few of the books on my summer reading list (in alphabetical order)… Summer Reading List | Girl on the Move Blog

Daring Greatly – Brene Brown…I’ve gotten so many recommendations for this book that I figured it was time to actually read it!

Fault in Our Stars by John Green…I know I probably should have read this sooner but better late than never right?!?

Hope Runs by Claire Diaz-Ortiz…I saw someone post about this on Twitter and was intrigued so decided to add it to my list!

Love, Skip, Jump by Shelene Brown…Another book that I’ve gotten several recommendations for, so I’m looking forward to

The One & Only by Emily Giffin…I’ve heard really mixed reviews on this book but I love sports so I’m looking forward to Giffin’s latest book

Promise of a Pencil by Adam Braun…Even though I’m not currently teaching I am still an educator at heart and I look forward to reading about these schools in Africa

Urban Halo by Craig Greenfield…My sister thought this book was great

I hope this list inspires you to read a new book this summer!  I love discovering new authors and books so what book suggestions do you have for me?

OMG. I. remember. reading. Honestly, if someone told me I had the day off from mum duties and could do anything I wanted, reading a book (with vino in the sun or curled up with a hot toddy and a lap rug on the couch) would be right up there in the dream of dreams.

Let me know how you get on with the books – I’d be interested to see your pick of the bunch.

I’ll definitely do a post towards the end of summer with an update on the books I’ve read! And I’m enjoying all my reading now because I know when the day comes that I have kiddos I won’t be able to read as much!

I just got The One and Only in my PopSugar Must Have box this week. I have heard of the author, but haven’t read anything by her. Looking forward to getting into it as soon as I finish my latest can’t-put-it-down read, I am Pilgrim (some inappropriate stuff at the beginning, but it is such a page-turner)!

I absolutely love Emily Giffin…I hope you enjoy the book! And I’ll definitely have to check out I Am Pilgrim!

I’m glad to know I’m not the only person who hasn’t read Fault in Our Stars! Is it bad to say I haven’t even thought about summer reading?! Going to put a list together this week!!

It’s not bad at all! Some summers I don’t have time to think about a summer reading list until the middle of August…I’d love to hear what’s on your list!

I am a huge reader, but haven’t finished a book since February. I’ve actually decided to cut back on my blogging a bit so I can read more. Fault In My Stars has been on my reading list forever, so hopefully this summer. I read about half of Daring Greatly last year – it was okay, not earthshattering like I had heard.

It’s difficult to do everything and sometimes you need to take a step back from blogging to do something you really love…like reading! A friend is going to send me Fault in My Stars so I can’t wait to read it!

I’ve heard such mixed reviews so I’m a little nervous, but I really like the author so I’m going to give it a try!

Wow. I am totally inspired. My reading list for the past 2 years ahas only involved Children’s books, potty training strategies and the Montessori Method. Just the thought of reading 5 books seems so impossible, but I must say you have totally inspired me to read at least ONE for ME book! great list. Actually, this is probably a good way for me to keep up on English pop-culture too, so glad I found you from Pretty Thing & Co!

Definitely read at least one! When I quit teaching two years ago one of my commitments to myself was that I would read books for me instead of only books for my middle school classroom!

Check out anything by Alice Hoffman. Adore that woman!

Great list you have there too! I’ve read Daring Greatly and Fault In Our Stars. Both SO wonderful…and emotionally exhausting. Ha! 😉

Okay I have a few more recommendations for you that I think you will LOVE!
Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell
Looking for Alaska by John Green
Breakfast at Tiffany’s by James Patterson

    • jmdenouden@gmail.com

That’s a great question! I have not yet read them all (because I got distracted by some other great books) but so far I’ve really loved Love, Skip, Jump
