Have a Happy Healthy Holiday!

Tis the season for holiday parties filled with calorie laden foods and drinks and a calendar so packed it might be difficult to make it to the gym.  So how do you stay healthy during the holidays…with these healthy holiday tips!

Find time to be active – The truth is you’re probably going to eat more than you should this time of year so balance the extra calories with extra exercise.  If you’re shopping at the mall, find a parking space further away to log a few extra steps, create holiday traditions that involve being active like ice skating, sledding, or a family 5k (there are some fun Santa and Ugly Sweater runs out there!)

Choose your indulgences carefully…if you’re obsessed with Aunt Rosa’s cookies, then skip the ones you only kind of like from your other relatives…don’t indulge on everything available!

Healthy holiday tips to help you stay on track with your diet and workout goals during the busy (treat filled!) holiday season!
Practice portion control – It’s okay to eat one treat at your work Christmas party, but you probably don’t need to eat ten of them!

Plate your food…If you’re at a holiday party don’t spend the whole evening grazing at the buffet table.  Grazing means you’ll end up eating way more than you should!  Instead, prepare a plate of food and then stick to that!

Bring healthy food…If you’re attending potluck holiday events, bring along a reasonably healthy dish.  This way you’ll know there is at least one healthy option to choose from at dinner time.

Healthy, Active Living with prAna style

Here at Girl on the Move I’m all about adventure…going new places and trying new things.  Specifically, I love going on healthy, active adventures.  So when prAna contacted me about collaborating on their product line and I discovered that their mission is to, “Inspire healthy, active, and free-spirited living,” I was in!  Healthy, active living is my kind of living.  Turns out I’m hooked on prAna style and can’t wait to add more pieces to my closet!

As with most of my posts, this post may contain affiliate or referral links.

I decided to test out my Mariette Dress and Devan Henley during a girls weekend with my sister (who is also my AMAZING photographer!)  We balanced our weekend with some Netflix binging and time at the beach…the perfect sister weekend!

There were a couple of things I loved about my prAna style…

*Comfort!  When I’m out and about on an adventure I want to look cute…and still comfortable.  And prAna gets the job done well!

*Transitions well.  I love finding clothes I can wear while running errands, at home, and out exploring and these clothes transitioned well from one activity to the next.

Here’s the great news for y’all… I get to share a 15% off any order code with all of you!  Head over to prAna and use code…  BLOGF16JDO

And then plan a beach adventure…or a weekend getaway…or a girls night out!

You'll love your weekend adventures with prAna style. Pack your dresses, shirts, and sweaters and you're all set for any activities you have planned!

Gilmore Girls Workout

One of my favorite shows to binge watch is Gilmore Girls.  There is just something about getting caught up in the lives of the unique characters of Stars Hollow that leaves you watching one episode after the next!  But if you’re going to watch a lot of Lorelai and Rory, don’t just sit on the couch…do this Gilmore Girls workout while you watch!

As with most of my posts, some links may be affiliate links. This means at no additional cost to you, I may make a small commission on anything you buy through the link. You don’t pay anything extra, but you help support your favorite blog with something you would have bought anyways.

Even though Lorelai and Rory sit on the couch and eat junk food while watching movies, if you’re having a Gilmore Girls marathon a few push-ups isn’t a bad idea!  So, whether you are team Dean, Jess or Logan, this Gilmore Girls workout is for you!

Lorelai and Rory go to Luke’s…10 squats.  This means you’ll be doing squats at least once an episode!

Friday dinner at the Gilmore’s…10 crunches.  You’ll be able to crunch your way through the sometimes awkward Friday night dinner.

Anyone drinks coffee…5 push ups.  By the end of the seven seasons your arms will look amazing!!!

Kirk performs another new job…5 burpees.  I think by the end of the series Kirk had worked at every establishment in town!

Lorelai and Rory quote a movie…10 tricep dips.  These girls know their movies and always have a quote ready to go!

Who is your favorite Gilmore Girls character?

p.s. I’m also really excited about Lauren Graham’s upcoming book and the Gilmore Girls Revival…November will be an awesome month in the land of Gilmore Girls!

Whether you are team Dean, Jess or Logan, or spend your time quoting Lorelai and Rory, or rooting for Lorelai & Luke, this Gilmore Girls workout is for you!

Healthy Living with BeFit Nutrition

Here’s something you should know about me…I am a type A, organized, checklist-making, planner addict kind of girl!  And these traits most definitely extend to my healthy living goals!  I like workout plans, eating plans, water trackers, and anything else that helps me keep my healthy living goals on track and organized.

So when BeFit Nutrition reached out and asked me to work with them to help spread the word about their workout calendar, workout vidoes and nutritional supplements, I couldn’t say yes fast enough!  Here’s a few reasons I would recommend BeFit Nutrition…and an opportunity to win these nutritional supplements!

*I am obsessed with the workout calendar!  I love having a workout plan to follow because in all honesty I’m not always sure what I should be doing (maybe that’s why I ran EVERY day for a year lol)  So I loved being able to print out the calendar and check off each day as I completed the videos.

*The workout videos are great…especially for busy people!  10-12 minutes and you’re done…and it was a good workout!  And all of the videos are on YouTube…so they’re free!

*The Whey Protein…this stuff was delicious!  I’ve tried a fair number of protein powders and I simply don’t like the taste of some of them, but this stuff was good!  I had a lot of fun trying out different protein shake flavors like this Frosted Sugar Cookie Protein Shake, this Piña Colada Protein Shake and this Mint Protein Shake.

Mint Protein Shake for healthy living
I do need to say this about the supplements…because I’m all about full disclosure and giving my honest opinion.  For me, the BeFit Burn, was not a good thing.  I am naturally a morning person and I do not drink ANY caffeine…so when I took the BeFit Burn before my morning workout I was wired!  I took it for a few days to really try it out but ultimately decided to stop because my body just doesn’t need that extra boost.

And now it’s your chance to win!  I’d also love to hear…what is your favorite flavor of protein shake?!?

Fit Travel Guide: Toronto

Toronto is not only the largest city in Canada, it is one of the largest (number four to be exact) cities in North America!  There are more than 300 days a year of sunshine, over 8,000 restaurants and is home to the largest single day parade in North America.  But a trip to Toronto doesn’t mean your fitness plans need to go on hiatus!

Here at Girl on the Move I am passionate about combining two of my loves…fitness and travel.  I am a firm believer that traveling doesn’t need to make it difficult to maintain a healthy lifestyle.  It’s a matter of making healthy, balanced food choices (I still eat cupcakes when I travel!) and finding ways to explore your destination that get you up and moving around.  And so the Fit Travel Guide series was born…join me as we explore cities around the world and I share ways to stay fit and active when you’re traveling.

Fit Travel Guide to Toronto with "Canoeing in Toronto" by Rob ...one in a series of fit travel guides
Fit Travel Guide: Toronto

*Take a free walking tour when you’re downtown

*Stop by Fresh for a bite to eat where you can try modern vegetarian food or place a juice order and watch it be made right before your eyes

*Stop by the Toronto Climbing Academy for an afternoon of rock climbing

*Combine your workout with fabulous views of the city with these top 5 places to climb stairs

Fit Travel Guide to Toronto
*Live a little on the wild side with a stop at EdgeWalk with a walk around the building…more than 100 stories in the air!

*The city has more than 1,500 parks with numerous open spaces and 600 km of trails. The parks system covers 8,000 hectares, or roughly 13% of the city’s land area!  Which means there is a lot of space to stay active…or go for a run!  You can take a ferry over to Toronto Islands for not only gorgeous views but also, beach volleyball, Toronto Island Challenge Course, stand-up paddle boarding, swimming, kayaking and more!

*Plan to spend some time at Ashbridges Bay Park where you can bike, hike, swim and more

*Head over to Centennial Park where you can go skiing…right in the city!  The ski hill sits atop what was once a municipal dump. It was closed and covered over to provide visitors with a snowboard slope, a beginning slope and an intermediate slope.

*Grab a bike and hit the trails with this Toronto Cycling Map…a great way to explore the city while getting exercise

What else would you suggest doing in Toronto?
